The UFC 257 PPV main card is underway and we got quite the opener! The strawweight division saw the UFC’s #8 ranked Marina Rodriguez stop the #10 ranked, Amanda Ribas, with strikes not once but twice. Okay, not really twice as the referee didn’t actually stop the fight the first time he stepped in, but Rodriguez did have to re-start her onslaught to get the standing TKO. After getting held down the entire first-round, she made quite the statement in the second to get back into the win column.
Ribas pressed forward, stalking her way to the inside. She was able to hit a takedown and lockdown top position from full guard. Rodriguez didn’t absorb a ton of damage, but she also didn’t deliver much of any of her own. Ribas stayed on top the whole time.
The second round saw Rodriguez clip her foe with a right hand that dropped and badly hurt Ribas. Rodriguez pounced with ground strikes, pounding away on a down Ribas. The referee stepped in but didn’t quite wave off the bout, but Rodriguez walked away as if it were over. Once it dawned on her that the fight was still going on, she got right back to work, clocking Ribas with hard punches until Herb stopped it for real. Two TKOs for the price of one.
