UFC Fight Island 7 video recap: Max Holloway ties record for most lopsided UFC decision ever

New, comments

Max Holloway tied the record for the most one-sided decision in a five-round UFC fight against Calvin Kattar.

Max Holloway had his way for all five rounds against Calvin Kattar in the main event of UFC Fight Island 7, winning a staggeringly one-sided unanimous decision (50-43, 50-43, 50-42).

The decision ties Rich Franklin vs David Loisesu back in 2006 for the most lopsided decision in a five-round UFC fight. Holloway entered the fight on the back of two decisions losses to Alex Volkanovski, whilst Calvin Kattar had won fights against Dan Ige and Jeremy Stephens.

What was the high point of the fight?

Holloway kicked off the fight in style, producing some impressive three-punch combinations and landing a perfect spinning back kick to the body in the first round. Kattar walked back to his corner covered in blood after the second round thanks to a barrage of elbows from Holloway.

As the fight went on Holloway continued to land more damage, absorbing Kattar’s best shots and bettering them with his own. The fight easily could have been stopped by the fourth round, but the fifth produced a moment that will go down in the history books. Holloway screamed “I’m the best boxer in the UFC” and was talking to the broadcast team, all while dodging shots from Kattar.

Where do they go from here?

UFC president Dana White said after the fight that Holloway deserves another shot at the division’s champion Volkanovski. Given how close their rematch was, it makes sense to book the trilogy next.

It was tough night for Kattar, he took a massive beating but showed tremendous heart in doing so. A fight against Josh Emmett is a good one to make next for Kattar, given how close they are in the rankings.

Watch it now, later or never?

It was probably the best performance of Holloway’s career, you have to watch it now.
