UFC Vegas 6: Lewis vs. Oleinik live results, discussion, play by play

Live, blow-by-blow updates for today’s UFC Vegas 6 event on ESPN+, which features a heavyweight tilt on top.

The headliner comes in the heavyweight division, with slugger Derrick Lewis taking on submission specialist Aleksei Oleinik. The co-main will see former middleweight champion Chris Weidman looking to get back on track when he meets the dangerous Omari Akhmedov.

This is an ESPN+ show and is kicking off at the regular time. The seven-fight preliminary card is scheduled to start at 6pm ET/3pm PT. The five-fight main card will kick off at 8pm ET/5pm PT on ESPN+.

Main Card

Derrick Lewis vs. Aleksei Oleinik

Round 1 - Lewis launches a HARD kick at Oleinik’s shoulder right off the bat, continues throwing as he pushes Oleinik against the fence. Oleinik tries looking for a choke, but doesn’t have the angle. Lewis gives him some room, only to ragdoll him to the mat when Oleinik gets off the fence. Lewis drops down and lands some heavy punches. Oleinik pulls him in tight to negate the damage. Lewis tries to push into a better position, but Oleinik isn’t having any of it. Lewis begins to stand and Oleinik grabs his leg and upends Lewis and jumps on top. He goes for a scarf hold, put Lewis powers out. Lewis pushes Oleinik down and the big man lands a few punches. Oleinik reverses and immediately goes on top again. Back into the scarf hold and moves into a neck crank. Oleinik is giving the submission all he can, but Lewis is defending. After about a minute, Oleinik transitions into an armbar attempt. Lewis defends and is soon saved by the bell. Oleinik 10-9

Round 2 - Oleinik wiffs on a front kick, only for Lewis to bum rush him with a flying knee to the chest and a heavy right to knock Oleink to the mat. Lewis unloads with the ground and pound and Oleinik can only cover up before Herb Dean intercedes. Big win for Lewis.

Chris Weidman vs. Omari Akhmedov

Round 1 - Weidman takes the center. Shoots for an unsuccessful single, allowing Akhmedov to take the center. Weidman is stuffed on a double, but clinches up and pushes Akhmedov back before being shrugged off. Another single leg from Weidman and the action ends up with Weidman pushing Akhmedov against the fence. Awesome takedown defense from Akhmedov. They return to the center and Weidman lands a couple of punches. Akhmedov with a body shot, then a jab. Weidman pushing forward. They exchange head shots, a second harder one from Akhmedov. Akhmedov stuffs another takedown. Another double finally pays off for Weidman. Weidman looks to improve his position, allowing Akhmedov to escape to his feet. Weidman continues the pressure against the fence and drags Akhmedov down. Weidman ties up Akhmedov’s feet, passes to half guard. Weidman applies shoulder pressure, posts up, lands and few short elbows, and that’s the round. Weidman 10-9

Round 2 - Weidman land a right, but Akhmedov soon responds with a heavy right of his own. Akhmedov presses forward, pushes Weidman into the fence, and pulls his hips out from under him for the takedown. A few punches land from Akhmedov before Weidman pushes back up to his feet. Akhmedov lands a couple of punches in the center of the cage before stuffing another takedown. A few body shots from Akhmedov and he is stuffed on his takedown attempt. They move back to the center only for Weidman to push the action back against the cage in another unsuccessful takedown attempt. Some short punches exchanged and they move back to the center.A couple of punches exchanged and Akhmedov scores with a takedown. He lands a few punches before Weidman presses back up to his feet. Akhmedov is fading. Weidman presses forward throwing pucnhes. Akhmedov catches a kick and trips Weidman down. He can’t find an opening and lets Weidman up. The round ends shortly thereafter. Akhmedov 10-9

Round 3 - Weidman ducks a reckless punch from Akhmedov, but his single leg is stuffed. A second attempt is successful, but Akhmedov isn’t down for long. Weidman rides him against the fence and pulls him back down. Weidman takes Akhmedov’s back as the Russian tries to stand. Weidman catches him in a modified Suluev stretch to drag him back down. Akhmedov escapes, but Weidman takes his back again and rotates into half guard into an arm-triangle choke attempt. Akhmdeov escapes the choke, but Weidman maintains heavy pressure. Weidman moves into the mount position. A few punches from Weidman and Akhmedov gives up his back ever so briefly before rolling back onto his back. Weidman is again working for the arm-triangle choke. Akhmedov’s face is turning bright red, but he isn’t giving in. Weidman gives up and begins dropping elbows. Akhmedov gives up his back and Weidman drops in punches before the bell rings. Weidman 10-9

Darren Stewart vs. Maki Pitolo

Round 1 - Pitolo steps in, eats some hooks from Stewart to land a punch and knee of his own. Pitolo begins circling. A low kick from Stewart. More circling from Pitolo. Major feeling out process from both. Stewart missing on wild punches. A brief engagement sees Stewart land a few wild punches. Pitolo begins finding his range, landing several punches as he steps in and out of the pocket. Stewart is unfazed and continues stalking. Beautiful punch-kick combo from Pitolo pushes Stewart back. Pitolo begins hunting for a double leg against the fence. Stewart catches Pitolo’s neck as the Hawaiian finishes the takedown. Pitolo is caught and Stewart intensifies his squeeze to finish the guillotine. Pitolo taps.

Yana Kunitskaya vs. Julija Stoliarenko

Round 1 - Stoliarenko swinging wild, so Kunitskaya clinches up and pushes the action against the fence. Stoliarenko reverses position... then Kunitskaya reverses Stoliarenko back against the fence. Short punches from Stoliarenko, but Kunitskaya’s knees have more oomph. Stoliarenko tries pulling guard, but Kunitskaya uses the fence to keep the action vertical. A heavy set of elbows from Kunitskaya. Constant pressure and short shots from Kunitskaya. Stoliarenko climbs with her back against the fence looking to latch on a guillotine. Kunitskaya lets her drop to the mat and disengages. Stoliarenko almost trips Kunitskaya to the mat, but Kunitskaya is back to her feet before Stoliarenko can do anything. They go back to clinching against the fence, Kunitskaya in control. Kunitskaya lands a series of short punches and knees, closing out the round strong. Kunitskaya 10-9

Round 2 - Spinning back-kick from Stoliarenko is caught by Kunitskaya and she dumps her. As Stoliarenko scrambles back to her feet, Kunitskaya chases her back to - you guessed it - the fence where they once again clinch up. Short knees and shoulder shrugs from Kunitskaya. Now she adds some punches to the body. Kunitskaya mixing in a little bit of everything. Stoliarenko tries to bait Kunitskaya to the mat once they disengage, but Kunitskaya punches her in the face and backs away. Stoliarenko is back to her feet and Kunitskaya again pushes her against the fence. Lots of knees from Kunitskaya. Stoliarenko FINALLY pulls guard. Kunitskaya accepts it and Stoliarenko throws up her legs and pursues an armbar. She comes close to getting it, but Kunitskaya pulls out right before the round ends. Kunitskaya 10-9

Round 3 - Stoliarenko rushes out with a knee. Kunitskaya eats it, clinches up, and pushes the action against the cage. Stoliarenko pulls guard and is again successful pulling in Kunitskaya. A few short elbows land from Kunitskaya. Kunitskaya not giving Stoliarenko room to operate, keeping her pushed up against the fence. Ref not liking the action and stands them up. They are AGAIN clinched up against the fence, Kunitskaya in control. Stoliarenko looking for a trip - anything to get the fight to the mat - but Kunitskaya not accepting it. Kunitskaya stands up as Stoliarenko again tries pulling guard. Back to the clinch for a bit. They meet in the cented, Stoliarenko going for broke with her punches while Kunitskaya tosses out a jab. Stoliarenko rushes and Kunitskaya clinches and pushes against the fence. The horn sounds and the fight is over. Kunitskaya 10-9.

Beneil Dariush vs. Scott Holtzman

Round 1 - Body kick from Dariush. Eye poke to Dariush creates a pause in the action. Leg kicks are traded when the action starts back and another eye poke occurs as Dariush leans in to punch. Dariush pushes Holtzman against the fence looking for a takedown. Dariush can’t finish the high crotch takedown and they battle for positioning. They break, trade punches, and Dariush wobbles Holtzman with a standing knee. Holtzman swings back as Dariush swings to finish him off. Scramble ensues as Holtzman stuffs Dariush and Dariush briefly takes Holtzman’s back. Holtzman stands and they move to the middle. Holtzman circles and Dariush picks Holtzman apart as Holtzman attempts to throw back. A SPINNING FOREARM FROM DARIUSH AND HOLTZMAN IS DONE!!!! Incredible finish!
