A Russian boxer and his girlfriend — a kickboxing champion — participated in a mass brawl that resulted in the death of a man in Siberia, Russia.
Former boxer Mikhail Startsev and kickboxer Liliya Vorogushina were filmed fighting in a parking lot in Barnual, which reportedly began when the couple, along with an unidentified female, attacked a man who was using a walking cane for support. Then, when another man intervened to defend the disabled victim, he was killed in the ensuing brawl.
In the footage, Startsev can be seen tackling the disabled victim to the ground as the other culprits attack him. Startsev could then be seen landing a single blow on the second man — a 40-year-old father of three, Pavel Pokhlov — who collapsed on the ground and hit his head against the curb.
Television channel 360 was the first to report the news.
Pokhlov’s widow, who was present at the brawl and was also injured during the attack, later took to Instagram to mourn the loss of her husband and to reveal the identities of the alleged culprits.
“Thanks to this animal my beloved husband and father of three children is no more! A good, kind-hearted man! Who couldn’t just walk by when a disabled person was being attacked!” Svetlana, who is believed to have a six-year-old daughter with Pokhlov wrote. “This man had a walking stick in his hand, he was simply trying to get away from these scumbags. My Pavel came to help him. Wanted to separate them. But Vorogushina - a champion kickboxer, and her friend started to jump in and beat us. Then there was the fatal blow and instant death! Instant! Not one of these scumbags have apologized to me or to his parents. They just decided to make it easier and block me everywhere.”
Pokhlov was put to rest on July 29 at the Chernitsky cemetery in Barnual. An unnamed 38-year-old man was arrested by local law enforcement and faces up to 15 years in prison.
