Remember when Jon Jones said that he would vacate his light heavyweight title and then he effectively indicated he wouldn’t fight again until the UFC paid him better? Well that was only a few hours ago.
Now Jones has tweeted that after another conversation with the UFC, things are looking up for him potentially moving up to heavyweight.
Just had a really positive conversation with @Ufc. Sounds like there will be negotiations for my next fight at heavy weight. All good news, the weight gaining process begins.— BONY (@JonnyBones) August 17, 2020
“Just had a really positive conversation with UFC,” Jones tweeted. “Sounds like there will be negotiations for my next fight at heavyweight. All good news, the weight gaining process begins.”
Amazing, isn’t it? It was only a few hours ago that he got off the phone with the UFC and said he would relinquish his belt and that the promotion hadn’t gotten back to him about improving his pay, and now a second conversation has produced the potential of financial negotiations.
It’s officially #SpeculationSZN for Jones and the thought of him challenging heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic, or perhaps a #1 contender fight against the feared power-puncher Francis Ngannou. We have been through this many times before with Jones, and indeed we have been talking about Jones at heavyweight since 2013.
And to think, it was just the other day that he was asking for his release. Stick around because there are enough hours left in this day for Jones to tweet something else that will merit another article and another twst in the tale.
