UFC 252 is in the books and it saw Stipe Miocic complete the trilogy against Daniel Cormier, winning a hard fought unanimous decision. Not only did he successfully defend his title, he also cemented himself as the greatest UFC heavyweight champion of all time.
Here’s a quick twitter thread with a brief recap and analysis of the event, that’s fitting for people’s social media era attention spans:
DVALISHVILI BEATS DODSON
— Bloody Elbow (@BloodyElbow) August 16, 2020
PROS: Quality win over a good name has been added to that nice win streak. It is not easy to outwrestle Dodson, but he did.
CONS: Some slow moments, but not really a big deal.
PINEDA TKOs BURNS
— Bloody Elbow (@BloodyElbow) August 16, 2020
PROS: I didn’t think it was a smart game plan early on, but Pineda willingly engaged with Burns on the ground and he actually beat him in his own game. Impressive stuff.
CONS: Burns missed weight and looked to be in terrible shape.
BIGI BOY KOs JDS
— Bloody Elbow (@BloodyElbow) August 16, 2020
PROS: We got a highlight reel finish.
CONS: Before that though, it was a terrible fight with both hesitating and not engaging. https://t.co/K3HGkt91K7
O’MALLEY’S LEG GIVES OUT
— Bloody Elbow (@BloodyElbow) August 16, 2020
PROS: None really. Vera takes the W and erases O'Malley's unbeaten record, but that was very anticlimactic.
CONS: O’Malley’s leg buckled multiple times, and ended due to injury. Somewhat weird commentary too. https://t.co/lUbKfEOJ0k
STIPE WINS TRILOGY OVER DC
— Bloody Elbow (@BloodyElbow) August 16, 2020
PROS: Great back and forth fight. Miocic cemented himself as the UFC's HW GOAT. Stipe's power edge showed, and as he came in great shape, he also bridged the gap in speed a bit as well.
CONS: More nasty eye pokes played a factor in the fight (again!).
#UFC252 OVERALL
— Bloody Elbow (@BloodyElbow) August 16, 2020
PROS: It was a boxing style one-fight event, and that bout delivered. (Jones vs Stipe pls?)
CONS: It was a boxing style one-fight event, and the co-main also ended anticlimactically. Other than that, and the fouls, there was nothing that bad really.
