Hoop, there it is! - Stephens misses weight for UFC 249, Florida commission looks clueless

New, comments

I think it’s supposed to go around the fighter, right?

Jeremy Stephens doesn’t exactly have a long history of trouble with the scale, having only missed weight in twice in his 32 UFC fights. But when it does happen, he seems to miss by a decent margin. The former lightweight and longtime featherweight action mainstay came in 3 lbs over the lightweight limit back in 2009, for a fight against Gleison Tibau. And 4.5 lbs over the featherweight limit for his 2015 bout against Dennis Bermudez.

This Friday, in Jacksonville, FL, Stephens missed the featherweight mark again for his fight against Calvin Kattar, scheduled for the PPV portion of UFC 249. ‘Lil’ Heathen’ stepped on the scale at 150.5 lbs, with the assistance of a commission official who was clearly a bit unused to the finer mechanics of the UFC’s privacy hoop.

Pretty sure that’s supposed to go around the fighter, dudes.

MMA Junkie reports that the fight will go ahead, as a catchweight bout, with Stephens getting fined for his weigh-in miss. Good news for fans banking on their matchup as an all-action war to anchor the UFC 249 pay-per-view. Stay tuned to Bloody Elbow for more news and updates as fight night approaches.
