Throughout Daniel Cormier’s illustrious MMA career, only two fighters dealt him losses: Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic. And at this point, he is only considering avenging his UFC 241 loss to Miocic before finally hanging his gloves up.

Speaking to Ariel Helwani on their now weekly podcast on ESPN, Cormier explained why he is itching to get back at the current heavyweight champion.

“I’m a better fighter than Stipe Miocic,” he said (transcript via MMA Junkie). “I respect him, I think he’s a great guy, I think he’s a great role model, but I’m better than him. I just want to go prove it. I should’ve never lost to him. That is going to be one of my greatest regrets.

“I lost to (Jon) Jones, but he was better. Stipe Miocic is not better than me, and that’s going to be something I regret for the rest of my life, is letting him get a victory over me. It should’ve never happened.”

The 41-year-old Cormier doesn’t at all mind if his swan song takes place in an empty arena. But for his part, Miocic isn’t too keen on stepping up to fight during the ongoing pandemic.
