Alistair Overeem believes Jon Jones can beat Francis Ngannou

Alistair Overeem talks about the teased superfight between Jon Jones and Francis Ngannou.

UFC and combat sports veteran veteran Alistair Overeem believes Jon Jones has what it takes to beat Francis Ngannou but he doesn’t think ‘Bones’ will make the move to heavyweight.

Overeem has found the recent back-and-forth between Jones and Ngannou very entertaining and would love to see it continue but, ultimately, ‘The Demolition Man’ thinks Ngannou is far too risky an opponent for Jones right now.

“I’ve been seeing that online, I love that idea of them two. I just love it. I definitely think Jon can beat him,” Overeem told ESPN’s Ariel Helwani in a recent interview (h/t Vinayak Manoj of Essentially Sports). “It’s a complex situation, but I definitely think Jon can beat him. It would be mega-fight. So it’s definitely something I am very much looking forward to. I really enjoy these guys smack talking back and forth. It’s really amusing, and hopefully, it will produce some great, great mega fights.”

“To be honest, with all due respect, I do not think Jon is gonna do that fight. [He has] not much to win, a lot to lose. Because if he wins, he’s not heavyweight champion. The fight after that would be for the title, I guess.”

Despite Overeem and Dana White calling Jones’ bluff, the reigning UFC light heavyweight champion is determined to prove the doubters wrong and fight Ngannou in his heavyweight debut.

Jones, who last fought at UFC 247 where he defended his light heavyweight title against Dominick Reyes, has urged White to send him the contract asap.
