The VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida was home to a solid night of fights at UFC On ESPN 8: Overeem vs. Harris. The card saw three (T)KOs, two submissions and six decisions, including two split-decisions.

The UFC has managed to pull off a hat trick—three fun, entertaining cards in a row, all in one week to boot. Tonight saw:

  • A fantastic scrap between Yadong Song and Marlon Vera
  • Dan Ige pulling off the upset over Edson Barboza
  • Cortney Casey immediately finding her groove at 125
  • Claudia Gadelha stopping Angela Hill’s win streak
  • Alistair Overeem stopping Walt Harris in R2 of the main event after having been in serious trouble in the first after a big knockdown

Performance of the Night: Cortney Casey, Miguel Baeza

Rodrigo Nascimento Ferreira (R2 2:05 via Submission - Rear-Naked Choke), Cortney Casey (R1 3:36 via Submission - Armbar), Kevin Holland (R1 0:39 via TKO - Knees and Punches), Miguel Baeza (R2 0:18 via KO - Punch), and Alistair Overeem (R2 3:00 via TKO - punches) all won their fights inside the distance but it would be Cortney Casey and Miguel Baeza that would take home the $50,000 checks.

Fight of the Night: Song vs. Vera

Nate Landwehr (29-28, 30-27, 30-27), Giga Chikadze (30-26, 30-27, 30-27), Yadong Song (29-28, 29-28, 29-28), Krzysztof Jotko (30-27, 29-28, 29-28), Dan Ige (28-29, 29-28, 29-28), and Claudia Gadelha (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) all heard the final bell in their fights but it was Yadong Song’s thrilling fight with Marlon Vera that took the extra $50 G’s.
