After no events in April due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the UFC intends to return to action in May with cards on the 9th, 13th, 16th, and 23rd. We know that May 9th will be UFC 249: Ferguson vs. Gaethje in Jacksonville, Florida, and now the promotion has announced what is on tap for the Fight Night shows on the 13th and 16th.
For May 13th, light heavyweight contenders and former title challengers Anthony Smith and Glover Teixeira will square off in the main event. The co-main pits Ovince Saint Preux against Ben Rothwell in a heavyweight clash.
As for May 16th, heavyweights Alistair Overeem and Walt Harris are the main event, with a really good strawweight fight between Angela Hill and Claudia Gadelha as the co-main. Edson Barboza’s featherweight debut will come against Dan Ige, an under-the-radar fighter who has really impressed throughout his five-fight winning streak.
Both the May 13th and 16th cards will also be in Jacksonville, whereas the location of the May 23rd event is unknown. Dana White told ESPN’s Brett Okamoto that Tyron Woodley is targeted to headline the show, with Ariel Helwani getting told by Woodley that his opponent could be rising contender Gilbert Burns.
Broadcast details and timeslots are not yet confirmed, and we actually may yet still have fights booked.
