Dominick Cruz has been vocal about his willingness to step in to challenge Henry Cejudo for the UFC bantamweight title. On Wednesday, “The Dominator” confirmed that he is indeed getting a crack at the belt at UFC 250.
Cruz made the announcement on his social media platforms.
These recent developments came about after Cejudo’s supposed challenger Jose Aldo was reportedly taken out of the fight. According to Globo, Aldo’s work visa for the US recently expired, and the American embassy in Brazil isn’t renewing the document because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Cruz has not fought since UFC 207 in late 2016, when he lost a decision to Cody Garbrandt. He was slated for a return at UFC 233 against John Lineker in early 2019, but as per usual in Cruz’s career, an injury forced him out of the matchup.
UFC 250 is still scheduled for May 9th, but the venue remains unspecified. Also part of the event is a women’s featherweight title fight between Amanda Nunes and Felicia Spencer.
