The blue corner is on deck today for our BE’s BADDEST Tournament Series to figure out what is the single Greatest MMA Fight Of All Time—that one bout to watch before the world ends. Today we have the #1 seed, Don Frye vs. Yoshihiro Takayama, getting physical with the #2 ranked, Mark Hunt vs. Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva 1.
In yesterday’s tournament matchup, the red corner had a highly competitive battle between #1 Weili Zhang vs. Joanna Jedrzejczyk and #2 Robbie Lawler vs. Carlos Condit. Each bout was neck and neck approaching the cutoff time for voting, but with just 3 minutes remaining, a tally mark came flying in for Lawler vs. Condit. That secured the victory, bringing the score to a razor thin 20-21, and giving us our third straight upset in the tournament. Lawler vs. Condit now advances to the quarter finals to meet the upcoming winner of #3 Justin Gaethje vs. Michael Johnson against #5 Cub Swanson vs. Dooi Ho Choi.
Today’s matchup: #1 Frye vs. Takayama VS. #2 Hunt vs. Bigfoot 1
Don Frye vs. Yoshihiro Takayama took place at PRIDE 21: Demolition on June 23, 2002 and went viral for all the right reasons. These old school vets quickly locked up in the single collar tie and agreed to stand there and smash one another in the face with their free hand. There may not be anything more macho than this match.
Mark Hunt vs. Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva 1 took place at UFC Brisbane on December 6, 2013 and ended in one of the greatest draws of all time. Both men scored knockdowns, both did big damage, both bled, and both men left everything in the Octagon that night. This was a grueling war with tons of momentum swings, haymakers, and a healthy dose of plasma. This was truly special.
