The UFC is now 0 for 5 in trying to book the long overdue fight between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson. And after the most recent failure at UFC 249, even Dana White isn’t expecting it to happen any time soon.

The UFC president addressed the situation regarding this highly elusive matchup when a fan asked him about it on Wednesday’s Reddit MMA session.

Question: How confident are you that Khabib and Tony will fight at some point this year?
White: Not very. I’m afraid of what will happen next if we try to make that happen again.

Over the last five years, the UFC has been trying to make the fight happen, but to no avail. They once again tried at it for UFC 249, only to be stopped by the COVID-19 pandemic that kept Khabib locked down in his home country of Russia.

The UFC now has Tony Ferguson facing Justin Gaethje, which is set for May 9th. It takes place at the VyStar Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida.
