Heavyweight veteran Andrei Arlovski will reportedly still fight in May - just a a few days later, and against the same opponent at that.
Originally scheduled to take on the Professional Fighters League’s 2018’s Grand Prix Heavyweight champion, Philippe Lins, at UFC Fight Night 174, on May 2, the ‘Pitbull’ was left hanging for a while after the coronavirus pandemic forced the company to postpone the event.
However, Combate now reports that Arlovski will, indeed, take on Lins on May 13, at UFC Fight Night 175. That card that will be part of the three events announced by Dana White to happen in a seven-day span in the coming month.
Away from the Octagon since a 29-second knockout loss to Jairizinho Rozenstruik back in November 2019, Andrei Arlovski (28-19-2 NC) only has one victory in his last six bouts, a unanimous decision over Ben Rothwell in September of the same year. Before that, the 41-year-old lost Augusto Sakai, Shamil Abdurakhimov, and Tai Tuivasa, while his loss to Walt Harris ended up becoming a No Contest after the ‘Big Ticket’ failed a USADA test.
Headed for first Octagon appearance after winning the PFL tournament, Philipe Lins (14-3) will look for his fifth straight win when he meets Arlovski. During his four-fight PFL stint he finished all four of his opponents, including Octagon vets Josh Copeland, Jared Rosholt, and Alex Nicholson. The 34-year-old’s last loss happened in August 2017, when he was knocked out by Vadim Nemkov at Bellator 182.
Now, Andrei Arlovski is expected to take on Philipe Lins at UFC Fight Night 175, on May 13, in Jacksonville, Florida. The card is scheduled to be headlined by a light heavyweight bout between former title challengers Glover Teixeira and Anthony Smith.
