Welcome to a new week of our BE’s BADDEST Tournament Series to figure out what is the single Greatest MMA Fight Of All Time — that one to watch before the world ends. Our opening round of 32 is wrapping up soon, and for today we are in the blue corner, with the #3 seed, Dustin Poirier vs. Justin Gaethje, bumping heads with the #6 ranked, Robert Whittaker vs. Yoel Romero 2.
Dustin Poirier vs. Justin Gaethje was a scrappy slugfest that went down at UFC on FOX 29 on April 14, 2018. Gaethje went hard with his damaging leg kicks, and even hit a rolling thunder at the end of a round. Poirier pushed through the pain and put together a plethora of compounding punching combinations. “The Diamond” had “The Highlight” all sorts of hurt in the fourth frame, and was able to put him away with heavy haymakers.
Robert Whittaker vs. Yoel Romero 2 was for the UFC middleweight belt, well at least it was for Whittaker who actually made the weight. This wild war went down at UFC 225 on June 9, 2018. Whittaker and Romero went the distance for a second time, with both men having moments of hurting the other. The judges were split with their decisions, with Whittaker ultimately walking away with the nod.
