Israel Adesanya makes light of his lackluster decision win over Yoel Romero at UFC 248.

UFC 248’s Israel Adesanya has responded to criticism of his lackluster middleweight title win over Yoel Romero in good humor, poking fun at Romero’s damaged leg and joking that his Fight of the Night classic with Kelvin Gastelum at UFC 236 made up for his snoozefest against ‘Soldier of God’.

“rOmERo iZ MadE oF STelL!” Adesanya posted on social media following the bout.

Adesanya, who beat Romero via unanimous decision, landed just 48 strikes after 25 minutes of action — per the UFC’s official stats. The defending UFC middleweight champion evaded most of Romero’s lunging attacks and peppered the Cuban’s lead leg with low kicks. Romero, who is renowned for his explosive power and exciting fighting style, landed just 40 strikes in total. The Olympic silver medallist and and freestyle wrestling powerhouse criticized Adesanya for ‘running like Usain Bolt.

UFC president Dana White, on the other hand, believes Romero is to blame and credited ‘The Last Stylebender’ for fighting a smart fight.

Adesanya is currently ranked #6 in the UFC pound-for-pound rankings.
