During the UFC 248 post-fight presser, Dana White revealed an altercation between top featherweight contenders Brian Ortega and “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung. As it turned out, the tussle actually happened between “T-City” and Korean pop star Jay Park, who also served as Jung’s translator.

These actions angered Jung, who vowed to exact revenge inside the Octagon. Ortega later released a statement which has since been deleted, explaining his side of the story.

On Saturday night, I slapped three people a [sic] the same time. I apologize for slapping the “translator,” and I apologize for slapping the “K-pop star,” but I don’t apologize for slapping the “instigator.”

Ortega’s Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu mentor Rener Gracie also responded to the post, which seemingly condoned his protégé’s actions.

Jung eventually found out about Gracie’s comment, which he expressed disappointment to through a new Instagram post.

@renergracie I cannot believe you wrote this!Jay Park never asked me to write anything and get myself involved in this situation.

How is it even acceptable that a 2nd place ranked fighter resorted to using violence towards a civilian?I have been practicing my Jiu Jitsu while watching your YouTube videos. I even attended your seminar when you were in Korea. I am just ashamed and embarrassed.

I also want to address that I am upset at ‘Gracie Jiu Jitsu’ as much as that moment when Ortega slapped Jay Park.

Is it okay for someone to solve a problem physically before attempting to fix it verbally? Do you guys tell your students that it’s okay to do that at Gracie Jiu Jitsu?

I truly thought that you would scold Ortega for his childish behavior because he should have never hit a civilian. I am deeply disappointed in you. #zombieapocalypse

On Tuesday, Ortega tweeted out an “official” apology.

Ortega and Jung were scheduled to headline UFC Busan last December, but the former pulled out due to an injury. Frankie Edgar ended up being the replacement fighter and lost via first-round TKO.
