He is still not the champion, but he made sure Joseph Benavidez would not be, too.
After failing to make the flyweight mark by 2.5 pounds at the UFC Norfolk’s official weigh-ins, Deiveson Figueiredo came into the fight on a mission to put Benavidez always with violence, and that’s what he did, picking up a vicious knockout win in the second round of the fight.
On Twitter, because of Deiveson’s weight mishap, pro fighters had mixed feelings about the result.
Looking forward to @JoeJitsu fight tonight. The man has put in the years of sacrifice/hard work & earned the title as best in the world, regardless of the outcome of this fight. Still hope he leaves with gold around his waist... #UFCNorfolk

May not have went your way, but @JoeJitsu you are still one of the best fighters on the planet. Not much people can put it together the way you do. I know you’ll be back stronger and one day that strap will be yours! Congrats to Figueirdo #UFCNorfolk

Damn... Figueiredo just looked too big and strong against Joe, and when you miss weight it’s hard not to think it didn’t play a part in things.
