Jon Jones vs. Brock Lesnar? Jon Jones vs. Cain Velasquez? You’re not going to see that in the UFC. But you might be able to in the squared circle one day.
The UFC light heavyweight champion barely escaped Houston with the title around his waist, securing a controversial but unanimous nod over Dominick Reyes in the UFC 247 headliner. It’s unclear what is next for Jonny Bones (and you can look at the betting odds for what’s next here), but one dream of his is to get into pro wrestling one day.
Plenty of successful MMA fighters have headed over to the world of wrestling at some point, so Jones wouldn’t be that out of place there. And he welcomes the idea. He told SI.com’s Justin Barrasso that he’s interested it the crossover:
“I think it’s inevitable,” said Jones. “I’ve always respected WWE, and I feel like the sports can be so similar.”
He also feels like he has the right tools to succeed there:
“I have the size and athleticism and the following to transition over really well,” said Jones. “To get the opportunity to just show up, even as a special guest, would be a dream come true.”
Jones would undoubtedly be a huge draw for WWE if they could figure something out. As he said, he has the size and skill to be a great pro wrestler, and all the controversy that seems to follow him everywhere would just make him even more marketable in that environment. Who knows if we’ll ever see it, but I’d welcome the day that Bones walked down the ramp on Raw or Smackdown (or NXT - hello Matt Riddle).
