After seeing the success of Mike Tyson vs. Roy Jones Jr. up close a few weeks ago Snoop Dogg is looking to cash in on the celebrity boxing craze. The rapper, who provided commentary for the event, is apparently starting his own boxing promotion named ‘The Fight Club’.
According to Sportsnet Snoop Dogg will be partnering with Triller, the social video platform that promoted Tyson vs Jones Jr., for this new venture.
Sportsnet reported that Snoop Dogg and Triller will look to replicate the success of Tyson vs. Jones Jr. (which it is claimed sold over 1.2 million pay-per-views) by matching celebrities, musicians, social media stars and athletes from other sports inside the squared circle.
‘The Fight Club’ will also see Triller continue to feature musical acts between bouts. Snoop Dogg’s league will be a separate entity from Tyson’s Legends Only League, which is the banner Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr. fought under. Triller plans to continue Tyson’s league, focusing on largely veteran (or retired) stars from boxing.
Snoop Dogg’s role with the new promotion includes commentating on the fights as well as helping to select the fighters.
This news comes after both Mike Tyson and Jake Paul signalled their intent to keep on fighting. Tyson recently suggested former foe Evander Holyfield as his next opponent (though, Holyfield has a steep asking price).
Paul, who spectacularly knocked out former NBA player Nate Robinson, called out UFC fighters Jorge Masvidal, Ben Askren and, of course, Conor McGregor.
