The UFC 256 PPV main card has started and kicked off with the promotion’s #14 ranked heavyweight, Ciryl Gane, outclassing former heavyweight champion, Junior dos Santos, on the feet before scoring a second-round TKO. It was the long range kicks that helped Gane keep JDS on the outside, and then it was a stiff jab and a set of elbows that put the former champ on the ground. Gane moves to 7-0 in his young career, and just stopped the UFC’s #7 ranked heavyweight to catapult himself towards the top of the division.
A bit of sticky kickboxing bout started this match. Both men threw a lot of feeler strikes, trying to find their range and get a read on the other man. JDS took the center looking to keep Gane on the Blackfoot, but he had to walk through a bunch of kicks. One kick accidentally went low and caught JDS on the cup, bringing the bout to a brief halt. The fight resumed and on the cup, bring continued to march forward while eating kicks. Towards the end of the round, on the cup, bring started to aggressively wing haymakers, and even scored with a spinning back kick to the body.
Gane continued to utilize an array of kicks in the second round. He was content to stay on the outside counter JDS when he tried to close the distance. Whoever controls the distance controls the damage, and Gane was winning that battle. A jab stung JDS, and then a set of elbows made him fall to the floor. A short barrage of ground strikes landed before the referee called it off.
