On Saturday, UFC women’s flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko puts her title on the line for the fourth time when she faces Jennifer Maia in the co-main event of UFC 255.

Shevchenko won the vacant title in late December 2018 when she defeated Joanna Jedrzejczyk via decision. Since that win, Shevchenko has successfully defended the title 125-pound title three times.

The champ scored one of the most memorable knockouts of 2019 when she stopped Jessica Eye with a crushing head kick at UFC 238. In her next defense, Shevchenko scored a decision win over Liz Carmouche. Most recently, Shevchenko scored a TKO over Katlyn Chookagian at UFC 247.

Shevchenko is the only woman to successfully defend the women’s flyweight title. Her only two losses in the UFC came against the current two-division champion Amanda Nunes. Both setbacks were via decision.

Maia, who is a former Invicta FC flyweight champion, is coming off a submission win over Joanne Calderwood in August at UFC Vegas 5. Maia joined the UFC in 2018. She is 3-2 entering her UFC title fight and has missed weight twice during her run with the promotion.

The main event of Saturday’s UFC 255 fight card, which takes place at UFC Apex in Las Vegas is a flyweight matchup between champion Deiveson Figueiredo and Alex Perez.
