Fans got treated to an absolute war between Errol Spence Jr (26-0, 21 KOs) and Shawn Porter (30-3-1, 17 KOs) in Saturday’s PBC on FOX PPV main event in Los Angeles, California. Porter had heavy underdog odds, but he gave Spence undoubtedly the toughest fight of his career.
This back-and-forth battle was too close to call through eight rounds, but Spence pulled away late, in part thanks to a beautiful left hand knockdown of Porter in round 11. The two men slugged it out in the final round, as they showed great heart, determination, and gave everyone one of the best fights of 2019.
In the end, Spence prevailed by split decision (116-111, 112-115, 116-111) to become the unified IBF and WBC welterweight champ, taking the WBC belt away from Porter. It was a much better and competitive bout than advertised, and both men can have their heads held up high after such a grueling affair.
