The marquee fight for boxing this week is the PPV title unification fight between Errol Spence, Jr. and Shawn Porter. Both men are world champions, both looking for the biggest win of their career. Bloody Elbow has live fight night coverage all night. Here, we have round by round recaps of rounds 1-3.
Round 1: Both men start with the gameplans that most anticipated. Spence uses his height and reach advantage to work behind the jab, moving Porter nicely around the ring and landing punches from the outside to score points. Porter tried to get inside and work the inside hooks. For now, Spence has more success keeping the distance, not letting Porter in much. 10-9 Spence
Round 2: Spence keeps working the jab, and early in the round, he follows it with a straight left, only to see Porter fire back and land a good counter, reminding Spence that he’s not going to be completely outboxed. Porter gets inside more, with Spence laying on him to slow things down when he does. Things get a bit sloppy at points here, which is what Shawn Porter wants. 10-9 Porter
Round 3: Spence working the body a bit more here, including a few body shot on the inside that venture low and ultimately draw a warning from the ref. Spence is not keeping Porter off him at all at this point. This is looking like a Shawn Porter fight, not an Errol Spence fight, though I do think Spence was the one who landed the cleaner shots this round. 10-9 Spence
29-28 Spence through round 3
