Join Bloody Elbow tonight (Saturday, September 28th) for live round by round coverage and updates for the IBF/WBC welterweight championship unification bout between reigning IBF titleholder Errol Spence Jr (25-0, 21 KOs) and WBC champion Shawn Porter (30-2-1, 17 KOs). The winner will have two of the four major titles at 147 lbs, with Manny Pacquiao (WBA) and Terence Crawford (WBO) possessing the other half. While I’m sure many want to see Spence against Crawford next, don’t be surprised if we end up seeing Pacquiao against the Spence-Porter winner in 2020.

There has been plenty of promotional push for both men, and the Staples Center in Los Angeles should have a great atmosphere. The undercard is quite impressive by boxing PPV standards, and you should watch Anthony Dirrell (33-1-1, 24 KOs) against David Benavidez (21-0, 18 KOs) for the WBC super-middleweight title, as Benavidez is one of the most exciting young boxers in the world right now.

Round 1 - Here we go! Porter slips throwing a jab. Feel out process in the opening minute. Porter coming forward aggressively but missing on a wild hook. Spence pops out two jabs. Body shots by Porter. Spence misses on a right hook. Body shots by Porter. Body shot lands for Spence. Good shots by Spence and Porter clinches up. Not a whole lot to separate the two. 10-9 Porter.

Round 2 - Porter doing a lot of feinting. Countershot lands for Shawn. Jab connects for Spence. Strong counter left by Spence. He lands a jab and another one. Solid body shot by Spence. Porter comes forward and misses a bunch. Spence is off balance in an exchange but I don’t think anything landed. big body shot by Spence as Porter fires away. Porter flicking out the jab. Long jab by Spence. Right hand lands for Porter and he clinches up after throwing a left. Good change against the ropes by both men. 10-9 Spence, 19-19.

Round 3 - Spence working the jab to begin the third. They trade body shots and Porter throws wild rights that go behind the head. Wicked straight left to the body by Spence. Low blow by Spence but Porter is okay. Porter is popped by a Spence jab. They might have clashed heads but Spence cracks Porter with a counter left. This is a sloppy sequence and it’s all-action! Porter is going haywire but Spence is dodging these shots. Spence with a body shot. Good left by Porter! Spence returns to the body and a left hook upstairs but another low blow by Spence results in a warning. Big left hand by Spence. Lead right by Porter tags Spence! Great round! 10-9 Spence, 29-28 Spence.

Round 4 - Porter digging to Spence’s body and lands a hard right upstairs. Uppercut and left hook by Porter! Porter complains of a headbutt as Spence cracks him with more body shots. Two straight rights by Porter! Two-punch combo by Spence! Left hand by Spence. Body shot and a BIG left by Spence! Hard left by Porter and Spence is stunned! What furious action! Left hook by Porter and Spence counters with a body shot. Stiff jab by Spence and then a left by Porter. Good combination by Porter. Uppercut by Spence. HARD left hand by Spence! Porter gets backed up. Winging hooks from Porter. Body shot by Porter. Spence with a left hand. Porter clinches up. 10-9 Porter, 38-38.

Round 5 - Porter swinging for the fences. Spence staying composed. Both men land power shots in the center of the ring. Porter with a good counter. A 1-2 by Spence gets through. Hard jab by Spence. Errol goes downstairs again. Two jabs to the body by Spence. Porter goes to the body and then he misses upstairs. Spence with a back-stepping counter left. Right hand to the body by Porter. Spence answers back to the body. Left hook underneath by Spence. Dirty boxing on the inside and I think it’s Spence’s round. 10-9 Spence, 48-47 Spence.

Round 6 - Spence on the front foot landins jabs and another body shot. Big body blows by Spence and he has Porter against the ropes. Porter switches things around and throwing big punches and nearly slipping. A 1-2 by Spence and then he pushes down and holds and punches. Left hand lands up top for Spence. And a right hook. Good sweeping left for Spence. Porter ducks a straight left from Spence. He turns Spence against the ropes and can’t land much clean. Right hand by Porter and then a body shot by Spence. They both land jabs. 10-9 Spence, 58-56 Spence.

Round 7 - Spence connects with a jab. Errol digs into the body. Porter scores with a right hand. Left hook over the top by Porter at the end of a combination. up jab connects for Porter. Porter with some succes with several punches. This is a war of attrition. Wicked body shot from Spence. Uppercut by Spence. Porter throwing back but Spence is landing the better shots in the clinch.Two nice punches by Porter and then to the body by Porter. Shawn closing this round well. They tie up with seconds to go. Ripping right hand to the body by Porter. 10-9 Porter, 67-66 Spence.

Round 8 - Spence with three jabs and a hook. Porter being aggressive but only lands one shot out of six. Counter right is there for Spence. Big shot by Spence! Another left hand stops Porter in his tracks for a moment. Porter gets hit with that overhand left once more. Porter with a left hook upstairs. Jack Reiss warns Porter for pushing and roughhousing. Porter with an uppercut that is blocked. Spence with a powerful left to the body. Porter with a hard right. Spence coming back with a right-left combo. A right hand by Porter tags Spence. Short right hook jacks the jaw of Spence! 10-9 Spence, 77-75 Spence.

Round 9 - Blocked left hook thrown by Porter. Porter tags Spence with a left as Spence goes back to the body. Stinging straight left from Spence. Good jab by Spence. They tangle as Spence lands a punch. Big uppercut by Porter! Hard right hand by Porter. Body-head combination by Spence. Good right by Porter in another tight quarters exchange. Uppercut lands for Spence and a left hand! Hard right hook by Spence! Porter throwing right back but Spence gets him again! It’s bombs away! This is a tough fight to score. 10-9 Porter, 86-85 Spence.

Round 10 - Porter comes out with a strong jab. Spence with two hooks to the body and a clubbing right. Good right hook by Spence! uppercut by Spence! Here comes Porter with two shots! What a chin Shawn has! Lethal body shot and a left by Spence. Left hand by Spence is off target. He gets in a jab. Hook to the head of Porter! Spence with good work against the ropes. Porter with haymakers and he just won’t stop coming with the aggression. Counter left by Spence and then Porter answers. They clinch up as Porter is tied up by Spence. Errol lands a left down the middle. Slams home a left after missing the right hook. Porter with a left! Spence with a left! GREAT FIGHT! 10-9 Spence, 96-94 Spence.

Round 11 - Spence is cut above his left eyebrow. Porter sticks in a jab. Two-punch combo by Spence. Porter with some bullying tactics against the ropes. Two huge shots by Spence and Porter is like a bulldog just charging at him! Body shot by Porter. Spence with a wicked right hook! Porter was stunned. Another hook by Spence. Left hand drops Porter briefly! He beats the eight-count easily after taking a knee. Porter yells “let’s go!” Spence going for the finish but my god Porter is coming back! Right hand by Porter! They tie up. Another right hook by Spence to cap off an awesome round! 10-8 Spence, 106-102 Spence.

Round 12 - Right hand by Porter! Spene with a jab and Porter answers with another right hand and then a left hook! Spence with a counter left! They are both going for broke in a wildly entertaining battle. Porter got away with an elbow. Spence doubles up the right hook. Nice left hand by Porter. And a straight right! Spence gets his hands frees and jams home more body shots! Left hand down the middle by Spence and Porter with a counter right! They are going toe to toe in the center of the ring! THIS IS WAR! Two big punches by Spence with 20 seconds to go! Ten seconds left! Porter lands a jab! Spence with a left to end this thriller! 10-9 Spence, 116-111 Spence.
