Jorge Masvidal is adamant his fight with Nate Diaz at UFC 244 will be one to remember, as he says they’re making it “the biggest fight of the year.”
The fight between Masvidal and Diaz will headline UFC 244 at Madison Square Garden on November 2nd. Following Diaz’s win over Anthony Pettis in August at UFC 242, the Stockton native called out Masvidal in his post-fight interview, and sooner than later the fight was booked.
Talking in the first episode of his “Diaries of a Street Fighter” series, Masvidal explained why his fight with Diaz will the biggest of 2019.
“We’re making the biggest fight of the year,” Masvidal said. “The biggest fight in quite some time in the way that we’re moving the needle and it’s not because we’re the most charismatic people or I don’t know what. I think it’s just because we’re going to fight and people know that. (Transcription via MMA Fighting)
“It’s just going to be two guys testing each other’s souls to the max. We’ve both been in those trenches, those fights that are tough and we pull out the victory. But we know how to dig and people love to see that. Guys that push through the f—king pain, fatigue.”
Masvidal is coming off undeniably the biggest win of his career, a UFC record-breaking five second flying knee KO of Ben Askren at UFC 239 in July. “Gamebred” is targeting a win in “impressive fashion” against the fan favourite Diaz on November 2nd.
“I’m going to give it my best effort to do what I’ve always done and that’s go for the off button,” Masvidal said. “I just want to make sure I win this one in impressive fashion.”
