UFC Mexico results: Yair Rodriguez vs. Jeremy Stephens ends in eye poke no contest

An unfortunate foul by Yair Rodriguez resulted in a 15-second no contest with Jeremy Stephens in the UFC Mexico main event.

The top of the UFC Mexico billing involved top-10 featherweights but ended in the worst way, before it even had a chance to begin. The #7 ranked Yair Rodriguez accidentally poked the #8 ranked Jeremy Stephens in the eye, causing an instant pause to the fight just 15-seconds in. Stephens told the referee that Rodriguez got him good, so the doctor was brought in to evaluate the situation.

The referee Herb Dean suggested that the closed eye would re-open with a bit of time, so the doctor’s exited the Octagon until the five-minutes awarded for recovery was up. The doctor returned to the cage but the eye of Stephens was still closed, so the fight was stopped before it even began. The crowd began throwing trash at the Octagon in utter disappointment, but quickly calmed down and returned to being civil. Hopefully they just run it back soon.

Yair Rodriguez vs. Jeremy Stephens was ruled a no contest at :15 of round 1: Featherweight
