The UFC 240 co-main event was the setting where the promotion’s former women’s featherweight champion Cris Cyborg went the distance with Canada’s own Felicia Spencer. Cyborg out-landed her opponent on the feet throughout, but Spencer did show off a lot of heart. At 21-2, the MMA legend finds herself back in the win column, and just might get her rematch with the woman that took her belt, Amanda Nunes.
Both athletes landed some early strikes, but it was Spencer who cut open Cyborg in the middle of her forehead with an elbow. Cyborg then went crazy. She landed some strong knees to the midsection in the clinch before disengaging and flurrying with her hands. A heavy leg kick buckled Spencer for a moment followed by eating some more big blows from Cyborg.
Spencer showed off some serious toughness by walking through a flush head kick to start the second round. Cyborg found top position after Spencer dropped down and was able to score a couple of ground shots. The rest of the second act took place on the feet, with Cyborg landing some clean punches down the stretch.
Cyborg was finding a home for her hands to begin the final round. Spencer showed off tremendous toughness as she stayed standing through the Cyborg flurries. The output of Cyborg was strong throughout the closing round. She kept throwing and pressing forward, never really letting up until the final bell.
Cris Cyborg def. Felicia Spencer by unanimous decision (30-27 x3): (W) Featherweight
