Many fans feel Alex Volkanovski is the rightful contender to Max Holloway’s featherweight throne, but the UFC went ahead and booked a title bout between ‘Blessed’ and Frankie Edgar instead.

Volkanovski beat Jose Aldo at UFC 237 to cement himself as the next top contender at featherweight and, as you can imagine, the Australian-based fighter was ‘pretty p-ssed off’ when the UFC announced Holloway vs. Edgar for UFC 240.

With that said, Volkanovski has accepted his fate and looks forward to fighting the winner later this year.

“1/2 - I was pretty pissed off with timing of the announcement @BlessedMMA vs @FrankieEdgar...In saying that, the plan for me was always fighting for the belt later this year, and the @UFC have made it clear as #1 contender, I’m next in line. I wish Max & Frankie all the best...,” Volkanovski posted on Twitter earlier today.

“2/2 - and I look forward to meeting either of you in the octagon later in the year,” Volkanovski posted in his follow-up tweet.

Volkanovski, 30, is currently riding an impressive seventeen-fight win streak and holds wins over the likes of ‘Scarface’ and Chad Mendes. The latter retired after suffering a second-round knockout loss to Volkanovski at UFC 232.

UFC 240, which is expected to feature Holloway vs. Edgar as the main event, takes place later this year, July 27 at Rogers Place in Alberta, Canada.
