AKA’s Daniel Cormier comments on teammate’s lifetime USADA ban

Yesterday, USADA took the unusual step of banning a fighter for life. American Kickboxing Academy heavyweight Ruslan Magomedov was issued a second and third strike by the anti-doping agency, and the three-time UFC vet will likely never compete in North America again.

Naturally when a fighter receives a punishment that heavy, people want to know what his teammates think of it. And double champ Daniel Cormier is one of the leaders at AKA, so he was asked about it on Twitter. While Cormier didn’t seem to be in the loop in regards to the situation, he wasn’t making any excuses for Magomedov:

For the record, Magomedov tested positive in October for methyltestosterone metabolite 17α-methyl-5β-androstan-3α, 17β-diol, as well as stanozolol metabolites 3’-hydroxystanozolol-O-glucuronide, 16β-hydroxystanozolol-O-glucuronide, and stanozolol-N-glucuronide. Yeah, say that three times fast. The third failure was for refusing a February out-of-competition test.

Magomedov hadn’t competed in the UFC since 2015, due to his first USADA violation - a two year ban for ostarine.
