UFC Wichita’s Junior dos Santos wants title shot against Cormier with win over Derrick Lewis

“I will win here and I would be very glad to face Daniel Cormier.”

Junior dos Santos is looking to reclaim the UFC heavyweight title.

The Brazilian is on his first win streak since 2012 and feels adding another win over Derrick Lewis this Saturday will catapult him into title contention.

Speaking to MMA Junkie in a recent interview, dos Santos, the former heavyweight champion, said he has his sights set on current champ Daniel Cormier, who is undefeated at heavyweight.

“I will win here and I would be very glad to face Daniel Cormier,” Dos Santos said. “Daniel Cormier is a different champion. He has achieved some amazing things in his career and for me it would be very nice to be facing him. I hope I could be the next one, but I don’t really care. What I really want is to keep myself active. I want to fight as soon as possible after this victory and whatever happens in this career, I know my title shot is coming very soon.”

A win over Lewis this weekend would mark his third straight, but the Brazilian is unlikely to get a title shot. It’s expected that Cormier will defend his title against WWE powerhouse Brock Lesnar, but ‘Cigano’ believes the match-up is ‘stupidly wrong.’

UFC Fight Night 146, which features Lewis vs. dos Santos as the main event, takes place this Saturday, March 9 at Intrust Bank Arena in Wichita, Kansas.
