it’s been a while, but all signs are pointing towards the greatest of all-time making his return.
Marcelo Garcia left the world of competitive jiu-jitsu fresh off an ADCC world title and a World Championship win in the gi. Realistically there is nothing left to prove for Garcia, but evidently the embers of competitiveness have been smoldering and the Brazilian is beginning the process of getting ready to step onto the mats.
Garcia went under the knife last week to remove bone spurs in his elbows, an injury that had bothered him for years. After hinting at a return over the past several months, the decision to clear up this annoying injury further solidifies Garcia’s intent to get back in competition shape.
Get well soon, Marcelo.
GRAPPLING STORIES
Erberth Santos has issued a response after his viral post-match brawl following his bizarre defeat to Felipe Pena. Santos alleges that he was assaulted during a photo op and racially abused, which lead him to jump to his feet and run into the crowd and start fighting spectators. Regardless of his explanation, Santos remains banned from the “BJJ Stars” promotion.
Craig Jones has been crowned the Grapple Fest champion following a thrilling match against Gabriel Arges. Jones built upon his Polaris title victory in 2018, by submitting Arges, a Gracie Barra standout, with a beautiful rear naked choke. Jones is primarily known as a leg locker so the fact that he secured the victory by choke will make it even sweeter for the Aussie.
Bizarre news reports circulating this week have suggested that the late Australian conversationalist Steve Irwin was a big fan of grappling. According to the article, Irwin regularly trained between filming of his hit shows and even paid for his security guard, Kyle Noke, to go to train in America. Noke would go on to compete in the UFC.
