UFC bantamweight contender Pedro Munhoz notched the biggest win of his career at UFC 235 when he knocked out former 135-pound champion Cody Garbrandt in the first round. Right after his victory, he immediately jumped over the cage fence and proceeded to have a brief conversation with Dominick Cruz, who was at the broadcast booth that night.

Apparently, such actions bear hefty consequences. Nevada Athletic Commission executive director Bob Bennett confirmed with MMA Fighting that Munhoz has been temporarily suspended pending a hearing or settlement agreement because of his post-fight behavior.

Munhoz may also face an extended suspension, which will be discussed at the next Commission meeting on Wedesday.

Bennett also confirmed that such sanctions is in no way connected with the UFC 229 post-fight brawl in October, when Khabib Nurmagomedov also jumped the fence to attack Conor McGregor’s team. Instead, it is to prevent a fighter from injuring himself.

“Our inspectors were specifically advised by me to make sure the fighters knew they were not authorized to jump out of the cage,” Bennett said.

It is also stated on section 467.728 of the NAC rulebook that “an unarmed combatant shall not leave the ring or, if the contest or exhibition is being held in a fenced area, the fenced area, during any period of rest that follows a period of unarmed combat.”

Munhoz (18-3, with 1 NC and 13 wins by stoppage), is currently on a three-fight winning streak, and is currently ranked number four at the official UFC rankings.
