The UFC 235 PPV main card is live, and the promotion’s #15 ranked Weili Zhang just earned a unanimous decision over the #7 ranked Tecia Torres. Zhang lost her pro debut, but has been flawless over the course of 19 fights since then. The victory should catapult Zhang up the rankings, setting her up for a future matchup with another higher ranked opponent. As for Torres, the veteran has now dropped three-straight, going 3-3 in her last six outings.

Torres found herself fending off the early takedown attempt from Zhang. After a failed spinning attack, Zhang worked again for the takedown, and settled for a standing backpack. Torres freed herself, and scored a takedown of her own, but Zhang was strong enough to muscle her way on top. The strawweights met in the middle of the Octagon to start round-two, and began trading back and forth. Both fighters were finishing their punches with kicks. The bout was rather competitive, with neither competitor really owning an advantage. Zhang found herself in top position, but Torres reversed her to finish the round in the dominant position.

Back and forth the fight went into the third round, with each woman landing quality strikes. Zhang fought off the takedown attempt of Torres and then scored one for herself. Torres was stuck on the bottom, eating short strikes and getting controlled by Zhang for the rest of the round.
