Megan Anderson has expressed her frustration in the past towards the UFC women’s featherweight division, but with some recent signings she is now excited by its future.

Anderson (9-3) made her UFC debut in June of last year, losing a one-sided unanimous decision to Holly Holm. She has since picked up a win against Cat Zingano, although in a somewhat controversial manner as an eye injury from a head kick meant Zingano was unable to continue.

Talking to MMA Junkie radio when she attended the ESPN card in Wichita this past weekend, Anderson revealed she is happy the UFC has started to add to their 145-pound weight class for women.

“I’m excited, I’ve heard – I’ve (been) given some news that they are finally starting to sign some featherweights,” Anderson said.

“I know that they’ve signed Bea Malecki. She was on ‘The Ultimate Fighter,’ but she’s apparently wanting to drop to 135, which is (expletive). But whatever. I know they’ve signed Felicia Spencer. They’ve signed a few other girls, and (UFC matchmaker Mick Maynard) is currently looking for a fight for me.”

There are currently less than women’s featherweights listed officially by the UFC on their website. Anderson continued to speak about Macy Chaisson’s decision to move down to bantamweight after winning season 28 of The Ultimate Fighter whilst competing at featherweight.

“I’m like, ‘If you want to fight in the division, then actively campaign to fight in that division instead of taking a fight at 135,’ Anderson said. “Or campaigning for fights at 135. This is what you get when you bring in bantamweights to open up a division that’s not their weight division.”

Anderson is hopeful she can find an opponent for UFC 238 which takes place on June 8th at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois.
