Johnny Walker has received his wish.
The rising UFC light heavyweight has stepped up on short notice and will meet Misha Cirkunov at UFC 235 on March 2 in Las Vegas, MMAFighting.com reported Tuesday morning. Walker is replacing Ovince Saint Preux, who on Saturday fell out of the Cirkunov bout due to an injury.
Walker called for the fight against Cirkunov on Twitter upon hearing the news of Saint Preux’s withdrawal, and less than three days later, the fight is a done deal.
Walker is coming off a 15-second knockout win over Justin Ledet at UFC Fortaleza earlier this month. That pushed his UFC record to 2-0. The Brazilian made his debut late last year with a stunning knockout of Khalil Rountree Jr.
Cirkunov bounced back from a two-fight skid with a first-round submission of Patrick Cummins at UFC Moncton last October. Previously, he had lost to Glover Teixeira and Volkan Oezdemir.
UFC 235 takes place at T-Mobile Arena and is headlined by a light heavyweight title fight between champion Jon Jones and Anthony Smith. In the co-main event, welterweight champ Tyron Woodley defends his belt against Kamaru Usman.
