BJJ vs Wrestling: Gordon Ryan to face U23 world champ Bo Nickal under modified rules

Check out the latest edition of the Grappling Report, a rundown of the biggest headlines and news from the world of competitive grappling.

ADCC season is over, but it looks like Gordon Ryan is going to need to get back into wrestling mode.

After a number of pull-outs, it seems Third Coast Grappling have settled upon a main event match for their December 7th show and it’s something special. Reigning world U23 and 3x NCAA champion, Bo Nickal has signed on the dotted line to face the biggest name in nogi grappling (HT: grapplinginsider.com).

Interestingly, Ryan was recently forced to pull-out of the BJJ Fanatics grand prix due to a rib injury and while he will have a skill advantage over Nickal, he most likely won’t be at 100 percent coming into the match. The rules are specially modified for this match up with no guard pulling or leglocks allowed, but even if Nickal scores takedown points, he is at a massive disadvantage once the match hits the mats.

GRAPPLING STORIES

Kyle Boehm once again proved that he is the fastest rising star in the 10th Planet universe. Boehm, who has only been training for less than 5 years, dominated his way to gold at the inaugural BJJ Fanatics Grand Prix. Boehm scored wins over Tex Johnson and Lucas Barbosa en route to gold.

Garry Tonon is set to step back on the mats this weekend at Fight to Win in Hawaii. Meeting Tonon will be UFC star and ADCC champ Davi Ramos. This match has been long in the making and Tonon will be eager to show he is up to beating a legend like Ramos.
