PFL 2019: Welterweight, women’s lightweight playoffs preview, weigh in results and video

Playoff time has arrived, and the field thins out on the road to the NYC finals.

PFL Media

The lucrative million dollar tournament rounds continue as PFL starts off their Vegas playoffs. In the process, they’ll narrow down the field and set up exciting action bouts.

To add to the intrigue, the male welterweight tournament participants will fight twice in one night to advance to the finals.

And Judo Olympian Kayla Harrison (5-0) had a change in opponent after former Ultimate Fighter competitor Genah Fabian withdrew due to health concerns. She’ll now be facing Canadian Bobbi Jo Dalziel (5-1), who is coming off a submission loss to former UFC fighter Larissa Pacheco.

Speaking of Pacheco (12-3), she’s got a stiff test ahead against former Strikeforce champ and UFC talent Sarah Kaufman (21-4). Kaufman’s looked unstoppable, having won four straight including submissions against Morgan Frier and Katharina Lehner. Pacheco lost her PFL debut by decision to Kayla Harrison, but bounced back with the aforementioned win against Dalziel.

Remember Brendan Loughnane (17-3)? He raised some eyebrows in his fight earlier this year in Dana White’s Contender Series, and got even more attention when he wasn’t offered a contract many felt he deserved for plainly childish reasons. Well, now he’s in PFL taking on Matt Wagy (13-6).

Former middleweight tournament participant Sadibou Sy (8-5, 1 draw) tries to keep his hopes alive in this year’s welterweight run, and will have a lot of work ahead of him against Hawaiian buzzsaw Ray Cooper III (18-7). Cooper obliterated his cousin Zane Kamaka to kick off the tournament, but got brutalized by former UFC talent John Doomsday Howard.

Portugal’s Andre Fialho (10-2) and Brazil’s Glaico França (21-5) will collide, as the heavy-hitting Fialho will have to contend with the measured and complete game of the former Pancrase welterweight champ in França. Chris “The Action Man“ Curtis (21-6) brings his brand of charisma and violence against last year’s champion Magomed Magomedkerimov (25-5).

Canada’s Jesse Ronson (20-9) has come a long way after stints in TKO, ACB and the UFC. He’ll be facing Russian newcomer Nikolai Aleksakhin (24-5).
