UFC 228 video recap: Tyron Woodley submits Darren Till in second round

New, comments

Tyron Woodley successfully defended his UFC welterweight title by defeating Darren Till by second round D’arce choke

Tyron Woodley picked up his first submission victory in almost a decade as he defeated Darren Till by second round D’arce choke in the main event of UFC 228.

What was the high point of the fight?

Straight away, Woodley opened the fight as the aggressor, backing up Till against the fence and trying to secure a takedown. The Liverpudlian was very hesitant at the start of the fight, using lots of feints but not throwing any strikes.

A right hand from Woodley at the start of the second round dropped Till, and it looked like the fight was about to be stopped as Woodley followed up with some hard elbows on the ground. After spending most of the second round continuing to land ground and pound, Woodley eventually latched on to a D’arce choke and Till was forced to tap.

Where do these two go from here?

Unless Woodley decides to make the move up to middleweight, a unification bout against current UFC interim welterweight champion Colby Covington is the only fight that makes sense for “T-Wood”.

The loss was Till’s first of his professional career, but in his post-fight interview he made no excuses, stating Woodley was the better man on the night and he will only come back stronger. A fight against either Rafael dos Anjos or Kamaru Usman both make sense for Till next.

Watch it now, later or never?
