UFC president Dana White has stated there will be a ‘couple press conferences’ for the mega fight that will take place at UFC 229 between current UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor.

The fight between Nurmagmedov and McGregor was officially announced last month at the UFC’s 25th anniversary press conference. Since that announcement, little has been heard of the fight, and the UFC is yet to produce any real sort of promotion for the matchup.

What makes that even more surprising is White’s confidence the event “will do 2-million PPV buys.” The UFC president discussed his plans to promote the card when he talked to Aaron Bronsteter of ESPN.

“There’s gonna be a couple press conferences, we are gonna get through this [UFC 228] then we will announce all the stuff that’s going on with Conor and Khabib.”

When asked if the UFC ever considered hosting a World Tour for the fight, similar to what took place before McGregor fought Floyd Mayweather in a boxing match last year, White said “we should have” but they didn’t have enough time.

“No, nothing like that. We should have, but there wasn’t enough time. This is the toughest fight in both of their careers, and these guys need time to train and get ready for this fight.”

UFC 229 will take place on October 6th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Nurmagomedov will be searching for the first defense of his UFC lightweight title on the night, whilst McGregor will look to reclaim the belt he picked up after defeating Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 in November 2016.
