UFC 228’s Tyron Woodley claims Darren Till is his ‘superfight’

“This is my super fight. This is the biggest fight of my career.”

It might not be be marketed as a ‘superfight’, but reigning UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley believes his UFC 228 title defense vs. Darren Till is more than worthy of the label.

Woodley, who has called for high-profile fights with the likes of Georges St-Pierre and Nick Diaz, was asked ahead this weekend’s title bout whether he plans to call out another big name in the aftermath of UFC 228.

The champ bluntly responded by claiming that the only superfight he’s currently interested in is on Sep. 8 with Darren Till.

“I’ve got a super fight coming up Sept. 8,” Woodley said ahead of UFC 228, per MMA Weekly’s Damon Martin. “I’m focusing on that and giving your opponent the proper respect is the only way you can open up any other doors. So thinking too far down the road and it will be somebody else wearing your belt.

“My focus right now is fighting Darren Till, going out there and putting on a great performance. A fighter that’s worthy of my attention, bringing true skills to the table. I think that should be my focus. We’ll talk about any other type of fights after this fight is over with.”

Woodley’s goal is to etch his name in the history books as not one of, but the, greatest welterweight champion of all time, but the 36-year-old likes to build his legacy one fight at a time.

“I try not to focus on a title run and how many defenses and breaking records,” Woodley said. “I just try to focus on each fight. This is my super fight. This is the biggest fight of my career. I’m in great shape. I’ve had a great training camp. I feel like all the pieces to the pie, that we’ve addressed those issues that we’ve seen in film and that’s my goal.

“To go out there and have a great performance.”

UFC 228: Woodley vs. Till takes place this Saturday, September 8 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.
