Undefeated UFC champ Khabib says he is ‘the Floyd Mayweather in MMA’

Khabib Nurmagomedov compares himself to boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Things got wild during last week’s UFC 229 press conference in New York, where Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov traded barbs and came face-to-face for the first time.

McGregor lobbed insults at Khabib and promoted his Irish whiskey for the majority of the event, while Khabib remained calm and collected and questioned his opponent’s heart.

At one point, Nurmagomedov compared himself to boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr., who is undefeated after 50 professional fights and is considered one of the greatest pound-for-pound boxers of all-time.

Khabib, the current UFC lightweight champion, is also undefeated and hasn’t lost a single round in his 26-fight career.

“I am the Floyd Mayweather in MMA,” Nurmagomedov said at the recent UFC 229 press conference, per MMA Weekly’s Damon Martin. “Right now, I am most active and dominant UFC champion. This is my third fight in last nine months and 26-0, never lose round.

“I don’t know what (McGregor) is talking about. I don’t understand what he gonna do 6 October. He think whiskey gonna help him?”

Nurmagomedov will look to extend his winning streak to 27-0 when he takes on former two-division champ McGregor at UFC 229, but it’s going to be extraordinarily difficult to win every round.

‘The Notorious’ has arguably the best stand-up game in MMA and one of the most impressive knockout ratios in the featherweight and lightweight divisions, finishing most of his opponents inside the first and second rounds. Khabib, however, is a different kind of opponent with a unique and dangerous skill set. The clash between Nurmagomedov’s world-class sambo and McGregor’s exceptional striking makes for one of the most intriguing matchups in the sport.

The UFC 229 pay-per-view takes place on October 6 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
