UFC Fight Night: Santos vs. Anders live results, discussion, play by play

Live, blow-by-blow updates for today’s UFC event in Sao Paulo, Brazil which is headlined by a light heavyweight bout between Eryk Anders and Thiago Santos.

Join us today on Bloody Elbow for live results, discussion, round scoring and play-by-play (for the main card) as UFC Fight Night: Santos vs. Anders takes place in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The headliner comes in the light heavyweight division, where Eryk Anders and Thiago Santos will both make their divisional debuts.

Today’s event is in Brazil, but will mostly coincide with regular Fight Night times. Live results and play-by-play will commence with the Fight Pass broadcast at 6:30pm ET/3:30pm PT for five fights. The event will then flip over to FS2 for four more prelims starting at 8:30pm ET, and then move to FS1 for the full main card which goes down at 10:30pm ET. The full lineup and schedule follows.

Thiago Santos vs. Eryk Anders

Round 1 - Low kick from Santos is caught by Anders. Santos hit a throw when Anders tried to take him down. They’re back up against the fence. Nice knee from Santos. Anders grabs a single and then ends up on Santos’ back standing. Anders with a knee. Santos returns it. They separate and Anders lands a right. Body and head kick from Santos. Santos with a long left. Santos with a knee in the clinch. Anders gets a brief takedown. They separate with 1:10 to go. Left from Santos, and again. Hard 1-2 from Marreta. Inside leg kick from Santos. 10-9 Santos.

Round 2 - Hard kick from Santos. Anders looks for a takedown again, but can’t get it. He flops to his back and Santos jumps in with punches. He backs out and kicks the legs. He jumps back in and moves Anders over to the cage. He almost gets up but Santos bullies him back down. He gets up but eats a huge knee. Santos with more big punches, but Anders fires right back. They exchange more shots. Anders is the one coming forward still. Body kick from Santos. Another hard one and Anders is hurt. He falls down but gets right back up. He’s right there still. But now he claims an eye poke, and the crowd isn’t happy. They restart quickly and Anders gets a takedown. He lands a knee right at the horn. 10-9 Santos.

Round 3 - Oblique kick from Santos. Anders with two big lefts as Santos throws a kick. He gets a takedown, then gets his back. He’s landing punches. He sinks both hooks. Anders is hunting for a choke but Santos reversed position and got up. Santos lands a knee and a big kick. Spinning elbow misses. They both land huge shots! This is a war! Anders gets a body lock. They separate. Anders advances with a left. Santos with a knee but he gets taken down against the cage. He works from half. He lands a few more punches before Santos gets back up. Another takedown. Santos with big elbows though, and Anders’ mouthpiece gets knocked out. Santos lands a hard knee and that’s right when referee Marc Goddard steps in to put his piece back in. Santos is hammering Anders with punches and elbows to the horn. Anders is really hurt. He gets up but collapses again. Once again he does, but collapses yet again. The fight is waved off. Wow.

Alex Oliveira vs. Carlo Pedersoli Jr.

Round 1 - Pedersoli comes forward. Cowboy tags him. He tags him again with a short shot after catching a kick and Pedersoli is down! He jumps on him and pounds away until the referee stops it! That didn’t take long!

Antonio Rogerio Nogueira vs. Sam Alvey

Round 1 - Inside leg kick from Alvey. Overhand left from Alvey, and another leg kick. Body jab from Lil Nog. Jab from Alvey. Nogueira feinting a lot. More jabs from Alvey. Nog lands a combo. Finally.Nog with a left over the top and they’re getting to it now. Body jab from Nog. Low leg kick from Alvey. Brief stop for an eye poke. Leg kick from Nogueira on the restart. Now they go back to being tentative. Nog wades in with a big left. Alvey with a counter left that got Nog’s attention. Another left from Alvey. Alvey misses and Nog clips him. 10-9 Alvey.

Round 2 - Nog with an overhand left. He stuns Alvey and chases him down. More lefts! They’re brawling. Alvey is straight running away from him, but he stops to land some counters. He gets cracked by Nog again though, and goes down! The ref jumps in, even as Alvey is trying to take him down. Weird stoppage but Lil Nog wins!

Renan Barao vs. Andre Ewell

Round 1 - They trade in the pocket. Barao bringing big pressure. He chases Ewell down after hurting him to the body, but walked straight into a punch and got dropped! Now they’re clinched up. Barao drags Ewell to the mat. He’s in half landing knees that are dangerously close to the head. He opens up with punches. Ewell can’t get himself out from underneath. He’s looking to secure an arm-triangle choke but he’s still in guard, so he gives it up. Barao passes to mount with 1:10 to go. Big punches. He switches to an armbar and falls out to the side. Omoplata now. He sweeps to the top and goes for the arm again. Ewell escapes again and gets up. Barao takes him right back down. 10-9 Barao.

Round 2 - Front kick and a left from Ewell. Front kick from Barao. Combo from Ewell. Barao isn’t really doing much at all on the feet. Ewell backs Barao off with a hard straight left. They trade in the pocket. Another straight left. Barao with a spinning back kick. Inside leg kick from Barao. Ewell goes to the body. Barao in on a single but Ewell stays up. Barao perseveres and gets him down against the cage with a minute to go. Barao with an elbow. He lands a few short punches but Ewell is locking him down. 10-9 Ewell.

Round 3 - Ewell leads with the left. Another. Barao with an inside leg kick. Another really hard left. He just keeps landing the same 1-2. Barao has nothing for it. Jump knee from Ewell. Barao not doing much again. Barao with another inside leg kick. Barao’s nose is bleeding. Ewell jumps in with a right. Barao with a right that connects. Ewell with two more lefts. He looks hurt. Ewell just keeps cracking him with it. 90 seconds to go. Another left. Brutal front kick from Ewell. Barao with a body kick that gets caught. Barao misses with a spinning wheel kick. They brawl to the horn. 10-9 and 29-28 Ewell.

Andre Ewell defeated Renan Barao via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)

Marina Rodriguez vs. Randa Markos

Round 1 - Markos comes out with a nice combo. They trade and Rodriguez grabs onto Markos. They work against the cage. Markos looks for a head-and-arm throw. She gets Rodriguez to the floor and slips into mount. That was slick. Right against the cage. She can’t do anything with it though, despite an extended stint there. Rodriguez bucked back to half. Markos moves to side. The crowd is booing but it’s nationalism. Elbows from Markos. 10-9 Markos.

Round 2 - They exchange from afar and in close. Front kick from Rodriguez. Rodriguez with a couple of low kicks. Markos has a speed advantage with her hands. They trade shots again. Counter right from Rodriguez connects. Two low kicks as well. Markos tries for a takedown but couldn’t get anything. Markos has a small cut next to her left eye. Rodriguez pressing. Jab from Markos and she sticks a left cross. They exchange briefly in the clinch. Rodriguez with a big left hook. She follows up with another combo. A knee in the clinch stuns Markos. Easy 10-9 Rodriguez.

Round 3 - Markos looks for an early throw but doesn’t really end up on top. Rodriguez gets back up and lands a high kick. Front kick and a superwoman punch. They clinch briefly against the cage. Markos with a nice trip takedown. She’s working in half. She’s landing some short knees to the body at the behest of her corner. Rodriguez reverses and gets up with two minutes to go. Jab from Markos, low kick from Rodriguez. Markos misses badly with a takedown attempt. Jab from Markos. Two knees in the clinch from Rodriguez. Rodriguez with two overhand rights and a front kick. 10-9 and 29-28 Rodriguez.
