A fight at UFC 228 that promised an exciting striking showdown won’t be happening, as Yair Rodriguez has been forced out of his bout against Zabit Magomedsharipov with an injury.
News of Rodriguez’s injury was first reported by MMA Brasil. It is understood that the UFC, who have yet to make an official announcement regarding the news, are already seeking a replacement to fight Magomedsharipov on September 8th.
Rodriguez was unexpectedly cut from the UFC back in May for reportedly turning down fights with Magomedsharipov and Ricardo Lamas, but was re-signed the following month. Details regarding the 25-year-old’s injury are currently unknown.
Magomedsharipov (15-1) has captured the eye of many fans since making his UFC debut back in September 2017. Starting off his current UFC stint with consecutive submission victories, the Russian last fought at UFC 223 in April when he put on an impressive striking display against Kyle Bochniak to pick up a unanimous decision win.
UFC 228 takes place on September 8th at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas. Tyron Woodley will put his UFC welterweight title on the line in the main event when he takes on rising Liverpudlian Darren Till.
