The UFC 226 Fight Pass preliminary card has just wrapped up, and the night began with Emily Whitmire notching her first career UFC win, as she beat Jamie Moyle by unanimous decision. Following that, lightweight Daniel Hooker starched Gilbert Burns with a first-round KO to improve his UFC record in the division to 4-0. Here’s how the fights played out.

Daniel Hooker def. Gilbert Burns by KO (punches) at 2:28 of round 1 - Lightweights

Burns wasted no time getting off to a great start, landing a spinning back kick and a hard right hand on the New Zealander. Hooker responded with leg kicks and a straight right to the body. A right hand floored Burns, and Hooker pounced briefly. Burns got back to his feet, shot for a takedown, and fended off a submission attempt. Once they returned to striking, Hooker blasted Burns with a double left hook combination, going once to the body and then going upstairs for the decisive blow to the head. The follow-up punches weren’t really needed, as Burns was out.

Emily Whitmire def. Jamie Moyle by unanimous decision (29-28 x3) - Strawweights

Round 1 was largely a kickboxing battle, with Whitmire both more active than Moyle and landing the better shots throughout the round. Moyle began round 2 with more success, mixing up her strikes by combining punches with leg kicks. Moyle’s first takedown of the bout was stuffed, and she ate a knee in the process. Whitmire tried a takedown of her own and nearly wound up on the bottom, but was also to maneuver her way back up. Moyle pushed the pace and was more aggressive to end the round, getting in good head shots, particularly with the short left hook.

Whitmire took Moyle down early in the final round. She stayed on top in half-guard keeping busy with ground-and-pound that wasn’t particularly damaging. Whitmire essentially spent the whole round beating up Moyle on the ground, and she took a deserved win to get her first career UFC victory.
