Joe Rogan says ‘most accomplished heavyweight of all time’ Miocic deserves rematch with Cormier

Longtime UFC commentator and avid fight fan Joe Rogan wants to see Stipe Miocic back in the Octagon with Daniel Cormier, as he believes the 35-year-old is more than deserving of a rematch with ‘DC’ after being knocked out at UFC 226.

Rogan’s reasoning is that Miocic, the former heavyweight champion, is ‘the most accomplished heavyweight of all-time’ and deserves a second bout with Cormier after defending his UFC title a record-breaking three times prior to his devastating loss earlier this month at Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena.

The part-time firefighter was listed in the UFC’s official top-three pound-for-pound rankings and knocked out a who’s who of elite contenders during his reign as champ.

“He should [get a rematch],” Rogan said on a recent edition of the Joe Rogan Experience MMA Show, per MMA Fighting’s Jed Meshew. “People are thinking, the guy wins more UFC title defenses than anybody on the history of the sport and becomes the most accomplished heavyweight of all time. Think about what he’s done. Think about the fact that he knocks out Fabricio Werdum to win the title, he knocks out Alistair Overeem to defend the title, he knocks out Junior dos Santos, beats Francis when everybody is terrified of Francis. He became the most accomplished heavyweight of all time. Then he gets knocked out by a crazy, perfect punch by Daniel Cormier in a perfect strategy.”

Unfortunately for Miocic, the UFC is adamant that Cormier will defend his newly-acquired heavyweight title against former champ Brock Lesnar, who hasn’t officially won a fight since 2010. The WWE superstar did originally beat Mark Hunt at UFC 200 but the win was overturned to a No Contest (NC) after it was revealed that Lesnar tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs.

Miocic has been highly critical of the Cormier-Lesnar matchup, lambasting the UFC for granting a title shot to a suspended PED user and calling Lesnar’s WWE-esque faceoff with Cormier a ‘sh-t show’.

Despite Miocic’s objections, it’s likely (if Lesnar can pass USADA’s pre-fight drug tests) that Cormier will go on to defend the belt against Lesnar in the new year.
