ABC head says Darren Till’s corner should be suspended: ‘They’re going to get him killed’

ABC president Mike Mazzulli calls for Darren Till’s coaches to be suspended due to negligence over Till’s health.

Darren Till’s weight cut for UFC Fight Night 130 was so extreme that the Liverpudlian lost his vision towards the end of the cut (you can watch that video here), and there have been calls for his cornermen to be suspended for pushing the 25-year-old past his physical limits.

The president of the Association of Boxing Commissions (ABC), Mike Mazzulli, was ‘appalled’ by the behavior of Till’s coaches during his weight cut and said they could end up getting him ‘killed’ in the future.

“I was appalled seeing seven people sit there and push this kid to the point where he lost his vision,” Mazzulli told Steven Marrocco of MMA Junkie in a recent interview. “They should suspend those corner people that tried to help him cut that kind of weight.”

“They think it’s OK to do what they did to that kid? They’re going to get him killed. You’re going to be sitting there with a girlfriend, with parents, who lost their kid to something so stupid, for no apparent reason. What’s going to happen is you’re going to have a mother and a father losing their child over weight-cutting to fight – not in a fight.”

Till, who trains out of Team Kaobon in his hometown of Liverpool, England, missed weight by three and a half pounds and will forfeit 30 percent of his purse to Stephen Thompson. Despite his disastrous weight cut, ‘The Gorilla’ went on to beat ‘Wonderboy’ via unanimous decision in the main event, although many critics scored the bout for Thompson and believe Till was given the hometown advantage by the judges.

With his win over Thompson, the former No. 1 contender, Till catapulted to No. 2 in the official UFC welterweight rankings and established himself as a serious contender and possible future title challenger.
