Valentina Shevchenko responds to Nicco Montano: ‘Sign the fight agreement first’

Valentina Shevchenko is happy that Nicco Montano has decided on a date for their fight, but isn’t going to believe it until Montano gets pen to paper.

After dropping to flyweight and dominating her first opponent, Valentina Shevchenko was all set to go after Nicco Montano’s title. There was only one problem with that - Montano wasn’t in a position to defend it.

The UFC wanted their title fight to take place at UFC on Fox 30 in Calgary next month, and after a report that the promotion was having a hard time getting a commitment from Montano, she issued a scathing response. But it appears that things have come around for her in the last couple of months, and she issued a challenge to Shevchenko to fight at UFC 228 in September.

It didn’t take Shevchenko to respond on social media:

Shevchenko (15-3, 4-2 UFC), long considered one of the best female Muay Thai fighters in the world, dropped a razor-thin split decision loss to UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes last September, prompting the drop to the new 125-pound division. She crushed Priscila Cachoeira in her flyweight debut.

Montano (4-2, 1-0 UFC) was one of the lowest picks on The Ultimate Fighter 26, but upset three fighters on her way to the final against late replacement Roxanne Modafferi. She defeated Modafferi via decision to win the inaugural women’s 125-pound title in the UFC.

UFC 228 goes down on September 8th. The promotion has not decided on a location for the event as of yet.
