For the last several hours, rumors have circulated that UFC welterweight and fan favorite Nick Diaz had been arrested, but there was some question of the identity of the person in custody, as the spelling of the first name was “Nickolas” rather than “Nicholas.” The age and middle initial matched up, though.

Now, MMA Junkie is reporting that they’ve received verification from an anonymous source from within the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department that the person in custody is indeed Nick Diaz of MMA fame. The charges are felony domestic battery by strangulation and misdemeanor domestic battery.

LVMPD public information officer Larry Hadfield relayed that the alleged victim was female, and that 12 units were dispatched to the scene yesterday evening at around 7:20 pm PT. The alleged victim was transported to a local hospital and Diaz was taken into custody after being combative with officers during the arrest.

Bail was set at $18,000, but Diaz will not be able to post it until after a court hearing set for 9 am PT on Saturday (May 26, 2018).

Diaz’s younger brother and UFC lightweight Nate Diaz has also had a recent brush with the law. The younger Diaz is currently under investigation by Sacramento police after he allegedly assaulted fellow UFC fighter Clay Guida at a Combate Americas event earlier this month.
